The Monikers Rock For Donors

Utah, August — A Brigham City rock band and a 7-year-old Saratoga Springs girl are talking to teens about saving lives by becoming organ donors.

The Monikers, a popular band that tours the state, and a recent kidney recipient, Trinity Fugal, are starring in a new seven minute DVD and 30-second television spot to persuade teenagers to join the Utah Donor Registry.

The Monikers play at the 5K Dash.
In the DVD presentation called, “Kids Need The Darndest Things,” The Monikers play their catchy rock tunes and interview guests as they discuss the issues surrounding organ and tissue donation.

Trinity makes an appearance before and after her kidney transplant and discusses her struggles with dialysis treatments. In the tv spot, The Monikers and friends see how many people can fit in a vintage Checker Taxicab to demonstrate how one donor can affect up to 50 lives.

The “Donor” Taxi has appeared in numerous tv ads and appears at public events to promote organ donation.

“For many teens, their first driver license is the first time they will be asked if they want to be a donor,” said Alex McDonald, director of public education for Intermountain Donor Services (IDS), Utah’s organ recovery agency.

“We are launching a new campaign to reach them beforehand, so we can educate them about this life-saving choice.”

The DVD presentation will be offered to high schools for their in-house television programming. The tv spot will air throughout the state during popular teen programming.

McDonald also plans to attach the DVD presentation to a promotional CD with new tracks from The Monikers, and give away the CDs at youth oriented events.

“We plan to promote the donor cause at our upcoming shows and partner with IDS at their public events like the upcoming 5K Dash for Donation,” said Seth Durfee, The Monikers’ drummer.
