Eagle Project & Donor Awareness Patch

As a Presidential Good Turn, the Boy Scouts of America set out in 1986 to educate Americans about the importance of organ and tissue donation. An estimated 600,000 youth members distributed 14 million brochures to families, informing them of the need for donated human organs and tissue and urging them to donate. Today, the need is even greater than before.

Currently in America, over 98,000 people are waiting for life-saving transplants. About 20 people die every day while waiting for a vital organ transplant, and 130 people are added to the waiting list each day.

EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT

This Eagle Scout project is a great way for you to help.

As an Eagle Scout candidate, you can design your project to be an exciting part of donor awareness in your area.

Be creative! There are many fun and different ways to promote donor awareness:

• Plan door-to-door campaigns

• Provide information tables at busy malls or stores

• Set up displays in medical clinics

• Distribute posters and brochures at schools or libraries

• Have a booth at a city or county fair

• Distribute brochures at ballgames

It’s up to you!

The staff of Intermountain Donor Services can help with your Eagle project. We will take the time to discuss your ideas for increasing donor awareness and work with you in carefully planning your project.

We can provide you with:

• Small group presentations

• Public presentations

• Printed material

ORGAN DONOR AWARENESS PATCH

Photobucket

Another way to help promote organ and tissue donation is to earn an Organ Donor Awareness Patch:

To earn this patch, you may:

• Participate in and support another Scout’s Eagle Project on organ and tissue donation.

or

• Have IDS give a presentation to your Scout troop on organ and tissue donation.

and

• Provide your scout leader with a signed Statement from your parent or guardian showing you have had a family discussion about donation.

Please determine three possible dates for the presentation to your troop and give IDS two to three weeks’ notice.

Your scout leader will order Organ Donor Awareness Patches for all scouts who complete the necessary requirements.
